My Santa Is My Owner And She Lets Me Write Down My Wishes This Christmas

When I first heard Audrey Hepburn sing “These are a few of my favorite things” in the evergreen movie “ My fair Lady”, I never thought I’d have an occasion to present my own list some day. But you know what they say, “Every dog ahs his day”, and I got mine too. This Christmas, my dear owner in my eyes, is no less beautiful than Audrey. Hepburn herself, has asked me for a list of 10 things that I want. And God! I can’t wait to get started.

• The first and foremost thing I want is to have my own bean bag, in front of the television. With my own Bean Bag, I can be a part of the prime time audience.

• I also want to have my own car and a driver, so that I can go for long drives as and when I want. Oh what fun would it be, to just hop on to the back seat of a convertible, have the wind blowing in my face and to have no one pushing me to the extreme corner of the car seat. I can’t wait to lie back and say to myself, “Now that’s the way to live!!!

• One thing I always dream of is to have a cupboard full of dog bones, in all flavors – chicken, pork, mutton, egg and even fish!!! I can chew on it all day and treat my palate to my heart’s leisure. That’s called getting a real taste of life!!!!

• Another thing that has always been a secret passion for me is to have cat in my captivity. But something tells me, this wish of mine will remain a wish considering my owner goes “Oh chooo chweet” every time she sees a cat at her window still, sitting majestically – much to my rising blood pressure !!!

• One thing I have always dreamt doing is to fly first class. After all, my owner has always made me feel that I deserve the best!!! I would love to lie back in the comfy cozy chairs I see in the television ads, be served chicken/mutton soup, with chop lambs and a jug of my favorite milk that I can keep lapping up while admiring the clouds and the sky outside. I would love to be on cloud nine literally, this X’mas.

• I also want a nice big bed all to myself. Even though I have been provided a decent bed and I am practically the master of the whole house (at least my owner tells me so), I still would love to have a master bed, where I can sleep without having to worry about stretching too much. Sometimes, I feel I don’t manage to catch the other dogs and cats in my dreams, because I don’t have that much of space to run while dreaming.

• I also desperately need a mobile phone. You might not believe me, but I do have quite a few local friends. They are cool dudes and it’s nice to meet them when I go for my walks. But there are times when I’m getting bored in the house. No cat or mouse in the house to hold my attention and no maids or squirrels to bark at. That’s when you feel like just calling up your friends.

• I would love to have my own personal shrink. There are so many things I want him to analyze for me, especially my dreams. I want to know why I only dream to cats and dogs and chasing them unsuccessfully all over town. I wonder if I have any karmic debts to settle with them or is it just my ID, my ego or the super ego that is causing me so much of heartburn.

• You might find this funny but I would also love to have a skateboard for myself. You know how it is. Sometimes you just feel so tired. I do want to go out for a walk, but I somehow don’t have the energy to walk. At such to just step on to the skateboard and look around. Now that would be a real smooth walk, don’t you think????

• And last, but not the least, I would like to have my own ATM card. There are times when you feel like indulging in something particular, but my owner does not understand exactly what I want. That’s when I feel my ATM card would be very useful. I can just go and withdraw money and head straight for the nearest dog store and buy whatever goodies I feel like eating. With time I might even cajole my owner to get me my own credit card. I have seen how easy it becomes when you have one. Then I can got o the jazziest dog store and have a blast.

Come to think of it, my list can go on and on, but I have been told to stop at 10 things for now. I can’t wait for December and the jingle bells ringing. With my wish list all set for my very own Santa Clause, I have already started my countdown. I am going to be the happiest dog this Christmas with all my wishes set to be fulfilled. And all those who love my kind and me, please come forward and join me in chorus to say “Amen” to that. Soon, I shall call all of you from my mobile and thank you all personally for all your good wishes. Merry X’mas!

Stress Relieving Medicines May Complicate Your Pets Conditions Further Leading To Even Death

It’s not that only humans suffer from stress and develop stress related illness. Animals too suffer from stress. We often remain oblivious to the fact that pets also suffer from stress. Being extremely sensitive to their surrounding, pets are known to develop emotional bonding with their owners (especially dogs) as well as fellow pets and any change in the environment triggers ‘change’ related stress in the same ways as it triggers stress in humans.

Stress usually is a response to stimuli involving situations that we consider to be threatening, depressing or out of control. The same is true for your dog. The animals respond by “fight or flight” method when threatened or frightened. During the "flight or fight" response, a complex series of chemical reactions and changes occurs in the nervous system of the body.

Sometimes, the “fight or flight” response doesn't work, and the animal becomes very irritated or upset, then it may adopt the “conservation-withdrawal” response. This response is initiated by the hippocampus (part of the brain), which then signals the hypothalamus leading to release of chemicals that stimulate the pituitary gland to produces a compound. This compound in turn activates the adrenal cortex to release corticosteroids which calm the nerves.

Long-term corticosteroid release suppresses the immune system, which makes your pet highly prone to diseases. The stomach is stimulated to release acids by the corticosteroids, which can lead to peptic ulcers. Both the “fight or flight” response and “conservation-withdrawal” tend to physically tax the animal leading to disruption of normal metabolism, growth, reproduction, and immune function, and can also cause an animal to self-mutilate. Other physiological events that occur are a decrease in heart rate, sometimes to the point of stopping completely and loss of appetite. Your pet may ultimately die "for no apparent reason."

Conditions such as infection, being kenneled, travel, breeding, separation from owner, shifting, addition or loss of a family member or another household pet, can cause stress in animals. In such cases, you dog can become extremely bored or show symptoms of severe stress such as fear, uneasiness and restiveness.

Dogs under stress can become violent, stop eating or overeat, become hypersensitive, bark incessantly, become hyperactive, destroy things or move objects in and around the household and resort to nervous licking or chewing of their own bodies. They can develop diarrhea, lose hair, develop mushrooming parasite populations, and their immune system can just disintegrate. What’s more disturbing is that stress can be a cumulative process. Each stressor by itself may not be significant and may seem apparently harmless, but when they affect your pet sequentially or simultaneously, they may push it over the threshold toward illness or death.

Stress Relieving Medicines

Dogs can be administered Stress Relievers to calm them. Some of these stress relievers claim to promote a sense of calm in animals exhibiting fear, fretting, anxiety or any unwanted behavior. But these medicines can also have certain risks and side effects. They can have toxins and induce drowsiness in your dog. These medicines may make your dog prone to reactions, drug interactions or adverse effects and are considered to be unsafe, inappropriate or completely ineffective.

These stress relievers are only meant to control short-term behavioral stress and anxiety and can be very detrimental to the pet’s health if administered on a long-term basis, even leading to death.

The Ultimate Remedy: PET-MUSIC

It has long been stated that music calms the savage beast and now with research to support that adage, you may be able to overcome stress or anxiety your own pet experiences. There are a variety of remedies to alleviate the stress your pet feels, and none may be more enjoyable for you and your pet than some soothing music. There is pet music to specifically provide a soothing soundtrack to lessen the stress of your pet and increase the positive brainwaves that elicit feelings of well being keeping them in good spirits.

Music therapy has revolutionized the way we can alleviate stress and anxiety in pets. It is safe with absolutely no side effects. This therapy employs music to untangle the knotted and stressed out nerves and brain, relaxing the mind-body as a whole. This music therapy is a method of beneficially recharging the cortex of the brain and distributing the latent energy throughout the nervous system of your pet. Usually, the effect of therapeutic music upon your pet is one of vitalizing, harmonizing and healing at almost every level of being. Music therapy is one of the most preferred techniques for relieving negative effects of stress.

Modern therapeutic science says that music has a massaging effect on our brain. Perhaps, that is the primary reason for widespread usage of music as anti-anxiety and antidepressant therapy and the handiest tool for relaxation when it comes to calming pets. helping ease depression, and aiding recovery from illness.

6 things that we have to consider before buying a bird .

What to start with?
First we have to consider the following :
What can I afford?
The price of on parrot varies in large bounds in dependence with the species. You can buy for example a budgie for less than 10 $. The price of the cockatiel varies between 25 and 35 $. An Amazonian parrot and grey parrot can be purchased for about 300 – 400$, cockatoo for 1,000 $...... and the price of some parrots reaches $15,000! This is one of the initial questions which you have to answer.
How much space will the bird need?
Larger birds and even some of the small ones are very active physically and need big cages and space in which to play.
Is there any free time for the bird?

Body Language Before Dog Bites

D

Dear Sir,
After catching up on doggy email, I've noticed your reference to submissive posture. Your book helped more than a professional trainer I hired for my adopted Golden. We went through biting and dominance issues. The problem I am having now is I still do not trust him 100%. When he bit there really wasn't any sign it was coming (that I noticed). Even now, the only sign that he doesn't like something is a lowered head and sometimes a low growl (the groomer told me this). This dog growls sometimes when he is happy. It is almost like someone taught him not to make any other noise in doors. Outside he will bark. I guess the big question is how do you read a dog's face, body, etc.?

Thanks,
Mark.

Elegant Spotted Coach-dog (Dalmatians) – The Symbol Of Glory

Also known by the other names like Dalmatiner, Dalmatinac and Plum Pudding Dog, Dalmatians are really the symbol of glory with the picturesque black or liver-tan spots all over the milky white body. No other pure breed dog in the world has got such an eye catching flashy spotted coat except the Dalmatians. This awe-inspiring spotting through out the body sets the breed apart from all the other breeds of dogs, bringing a very unique and elegant look. This bred is one of the fairly old breeds of dogs that had once been used as a carriage dog. The Dalmatians role as a carriage doge dog was to trot along side the horse cart. Sometimes they also used to trot underneath the axle of the cart for several miles at a stretch. These Dalmatians – the carriage dogs had to protect the occupants from the attack of the highway pirates.

Some of the other names of the Dalmatians are, however,
History Of The Breed
As per the world’s esteemed cynologists the breed was developed in the 18th century in the small province called Dalmatia in Croatia. It is from the name of the province that the breed had been known as Dalmatian. It was not until the year 1955 that FCI – the Federation of Cynologique Internationale had set the origin of the breed to Croatia, although there exist almost not evidence as regard to the history of the breed in the Balkans dates prior to early 20th century. It is due to the lack of proper evidence related to the breed history, that there exist lots of discrepancies regarding the history of origin and development of the Dalmatians.

As a matter of fact, some of the archeological findings have shown the evidences of the existences of the similar kind of dogs the history of origin of which would taken us to the ancient Egypt or Greece or Rome, although it has not yet been proved if our modern Dalmatians has got any genetic connection with those historical dogs at all.

However, there is another group of people who give again a different view regarding where actually the name of the breed have stem out from. According to these vastly learned specialists, the very name “Dalmatian” have come from a painting of 14th century in Florence by a renowned artist named Andrea Bonaiuti. In his painting, Bonaiuti, showed a pack of dogs very much similar to our today’s Dalmatians along with a group of friars donning a stoat fur used to be known as "Dalmatica". It is this term – “Dalmatica”, that the breed in our question had received it name.

These dogs – similar to the modern Dalmatians used to be found along with the company Roman people and had earned quite a great deal of popularity in the Vatican during the 16th century.

However, how the Dalmatians had gained the reputation, as a carriage dog is another part of the story. It was not until the Victorian period in England that the Dalmatians were used as the carriage dogs. During the Victorian period in England the Dalmatians had been used as the symbol of royal fashion – running along the horse cart or carriages. It had also been called as Spotted Coach-dog. It was not merely the fashion or for symbolizing the royal glory that the Dalmatians had been in use as a carriage dog. The most beneficial point hereby is that these dogs used to clear the way for the horses to trot smoothly with any breach of pace. It is beyond all controversies that those dogs not only had speed and skill but also were full of stamina.

During the later phase of time, after the dog was introduced to United States, the use of Dalmatians as a carriage dogs were transformed into the horse drawn fire engines. This is why these dogs are also called the firehouse dogs.

General Appearance Of The Dalmatians
With the well-built structure and a well muscled body, this medium sized dog has got some superior endurance. Noted for its awe-inspiringly elegant black or liver-tan spots through out the white body, the Dalmatians have earned a great deal of popularity all around the globe.

Coat is normally hard, short, dense and glossy but does not have silky texture. This makes the grooming quite easy and faster as well. The high set average long pendulous ears, elegant yet strong structure with muscular trunks and the powerful and level back, thick tapering, little curved tail gives the dog a look very glorious and magnificent.

The unique feature of the breed is that the Dalmatians actually born cute and purely white and acquire the spots much later. It is amongst those deep chested breeds of dogs that usually display an impression of unswerving strength and stamina.

Nature And Temperament
The Dalmatians are normally very playful kind of dog that is in the possession of high spirit and incredible degree of intelligence, which makes the breed easy to train. They are not only very affectionate but quite sensitive as well. a well-bred Dalmatian goes nice with the children but on the contrary it may not be wise enough to leave the little kids alone with a Dalmatian unsupervised due to the fact that it is very active by nature. They may not always be very docile but prove to be a good watchdog.

Health Issue
Alike all the other deep chested breeds of dogs the Dalmatians are highly exposed to the risk of bloat. Hence it is advisable not feed the dog heavily at least two hours before and after a heavy exercise.

Bladder stone is another serious problem that the Dalmatians are highly prone to. it is hence advisable to provide your Dalmatians plenty of clean fresh drinking water.

Very recently the researchers have unearthed the fact that the Dalmatians are also exposed to risk of iris sphincter dysplasia (ISD), which is again a serious of concern for the owners. This affects the pupil of the eyes adversely.

Allergies, epilepsies and thyroid problems are some of the other issues of concern when it comes to the breeds like Dalmatians.

Recognitions
AKC and NZKC have put the breed under the group called Non Sporting Group, while FCI has placed the breed under Group Section 3 #153 and KC (UK) has categorized the breed as the utility group. ANKC nad CKC have placed the breed under Group 6 and Group 7 respectively, while UKC has categorized the breed as Companion dogs.

Bull Dogs – The Breed That Lost Its Ferociousness

Believed to be among the most ferocious breeds of the world, the English bull dogs or British bull dogs, or simply the bull dogs have failed to earn the degree of admirations and acceptances as most of the other medium sized friendly breeds such as Cocker Spaniels, English Springer Spaniels, Basaenjis, Gordon Setters and etc have.

On the contrary the English bull dogs have got certain typical traits and uniquely distinguishable characteristics alike all the other molosser dog breeds that have set this breed of dog apart from any other dog breeds of the world. It is due to this reason that the bull dogs have been loved by many members of the canine fancier community around the globe. During the early period the bull dogs were really known for its aggressive temperament due to the fact that they have descended from the aggressive and mollossus dogs. But it is by the virtue of the selective and planned breeding, that our present day’s bull dogs have developed a placid and friendly temperament with a strong will power. The bull dog enthusiasts all over the world are all at one to say that our present bull dog is a breed which is incredibly affectionate and adorable and one of the perfect family dog.

The History Of The English Bull Dogs
The history and the origin of the English bull dogs or simply the bull dogs has always been a heated up topic of debate, subject to the controversies among the naturalists and canine experts. While the one contends that the bull dogs have been developed by the cross breeding of the pug dogs with the large mastiffs, the other group of people concludes that the mastiffs have been developed from the bull dogs. There also another school of thoughts, according to which the bull dogs, alike the mastiffs have descended from the Alaunts – severely powerful and aggressive ancient breed of dogs that had been used by the butchers to attack and bring the fierce oxen and keep them in their shops.

Although there are several ideas, thought and theories regarding the history and origin of the bull dogs, yet a point where almost all the breed historians agree upon is that the bull dogs was once used for guarding and controlling the baiting bulls prior to slaughtering. During those days the baiting of the bull was too commonly found because it was believed that the bull must be baited at the very outset so that the meat of the bull would be tender and nutritious.

It was not until the year 1802 that a bill was passed to cease the tradition of bull baiting, although it took 33 more years to get finally stopped. This had a tremendously ill effect on the bull dog breed. With the declination of the use of the breed, the breeding had been stopped resulting in the gradual declination of the pure breed bull dogs. It is due to the small community of the few numbers of dedicated breeders that we find the breed even today.

The first bulldog club was founded in the year 1864 by a man called R.S. Rockstro. Mr. Rockstro had taken certain very responsible steps and called for 30 Bull dog fanciers to formed the club, although the club failed to run for more than three years. During those three years they had already developed the first breed standard – known as “Philo Kuan Standard”

In the year 1875 the original bull dog club was established at the Blue Post Inn, in London, although it was not until the year 1894 that the bulldog club was incorporated. It was long after this that the UK Kennel Club was conceived.

General Appearance
In simple words the general appearance of the bull dogs suggests awesome stability, unparallel vigor and massive innate strength. The bully appearance is the true criterion of the beauty of the breed. The medium sized stocky breed with sturdy trunks, the saggy lump of skin in the facial region, short lobous muzzles is the breed’s unique feature. The most important point to noted is that the saggy skin in its face tends to create an appealing and attractive impact in the viewers’ mind.

With the average adult height of 12 to 14 inches at the wither, large head and the distinguishably well built muscular body, the bull dogs appear to be quite stout giving an impression of having mind blowing self assurance, innate power and great deal of courage.

Nature
Contrary to the common belief, the bull dogs have quite a placid temperament and quite friendly by nature. It is not at all a vicious breed of dog. they are very playful and also quite stubborn, which makes the breed comparatively hard to train. The bull dogs are by nature vhighly protective and loyal companions of the owners.

Although the breed is very adorable, yet these dogs have got certain traits that its has received from its fighter ancestors. The bull dogs normally do not warn a suspicious person or a stranger dog with growl. He would suddenly engage into a serious fight immediately after giving certain symptoms, such as slight stiffening of the body, intent eye to eye contact and repeated licking out of tongue. Once a bull dog gets involved into a fight it is really tough to release it by hitting as it usually feels no pain whin in a fight. Commands also will prove to be useless, as your yell do not reach its ears. The best advice is to avoid such unwanted situation.

Health Issue
Respiratory problem is one of the major problem that the breed uasually suffers from. Although a very sturdy breed the bull dogs cannot tollerate too much heat and may also suffer from the sudden heat styroke – especially during the summer days in the tropical regions. Some other isses of concern are allergies, hip problem, cherry eyes cataract and caesarean delivery.

Recognition
NZKC and AKC have placed the breed under the non sporting group. FCI has placed the breed under Group 2 Section 2 # 149, while ANKC has placed the breed under Group 7 and CKC under Group 6. KC (UK) has categorised the breed as a Utility breed and UKC as the Companion Breed.

Bird Watching And Visual Enhancement Device

Birds are the most fascinating gift of the nature that have adorned the world with some inspirational shades, thereby magnifying the beauty a million times. Unlike the professional ornithologists, engaged in watching and studying birds for the scientific reasons, the act of bird watching is observing and studying birds merely for some recreational purpose. The birds are usually observed with the naked eyes or by the dint of a visual enhancement device, the most commonly used of which is a binocular.

A great section of the world’s overall population is engaged in the hobby of bird watching or birding, although in India it is not too large as compared to the western world. The Indian bird lovers boast at the fact that there exist more than 1200 distinctive species of birds only in India, giving enough scopes for the birders from far and wide to study how they fly, what they feed on, the chirps of each species and there natural instincts.
Bird Watching Binocular

What is essentially necessary hereby is a good visual enhancement device – chiefly a binocular. This is the most significant component without which the hobby of watching birds will be of zero value. The most important fact regarding the issue is that a bird watching binocular is very much different from the a normal binocular and there are certain pivotal points to be seriously considered while buying a bird watching binocular. A good bird watching binocular should be an extremely powerful portable optical device that can give an eagle-eye view. The small binoculars are of no use in these cases. The big sizes yield great results. A minimum of 70 mm objective lens is, however, essential for the good transmission of light.

Another very significant criterion to be considered while buying a bird watching binocular is the kind of optics. Amongst the two different categories, viz. porro and roof prisms, it is advisable to opt for the phase-corrected roof prism binocular, although the porro prism binos are comparatively cheaper. This is due to the fact that the roof prisms binoculars are lighter and yield more detailed results.

Magnification and the objective lens size are the other vital parts of the story, when it comes to choosing bird watching binoculars. The optical power of the binoculars is defined as 10X40 or 8X36, where the first number indicates the number of times the original subject will be magnified or is closer, while the second number denotes the size of the objective lens. The bigger the size of the objective lens, the more light or image detail is going to be captured.

Another significant consideration while choosing a binocular for bird watching is the phase coating, which is basically a special treatment for the roof prism binoculars. The better the quality of the of the phase coating higher will be the resolution and the clarity of the image. With the good quality phase coating of the binoculars the bird watchers get quality range of close focus details along with the enhanced color resolution

The nesting season is an important time for birds

The nesting season is an important time for birds. Its springtime and birds must now turn to nesting. They turn their full attention and energy to nesting during springtime. It is a stressful experience for a bird to move to a new location. They need to adjust to new sights, sounds and foods. While birds are amazingly resilient, there are a number of things you can do to help minimize the stresses of a new home.

It is important that the birdhouse be set up even before you purchase your bird. No matter how simple, elaborate or decorative, the most important features are safety, the location of the birdhouse and the dimensions and shape of the birdhouse and entrance. A good birdhouse must have the following features:

* Ventilation holes in the top and drainage holes in the bottom
* Absence of a perch by the entrance - perches encourage predators such as cats
* Easy to clean - birdhouses should be thoroughly cleaned once a year to remove last year's nest materials and to prevent nest parasites.

One of the great ways to bring your yard to life with flashes of color, nature’s music and amusement is to provide your birds with their own private nesting area. You can add a birdhouse to your yard or garden where birds can nest safely without fearing natural predators. A birdhouse also provides shelter and warmth during heavy winds and at times of ferocious storms.

If we can have fancy houses, then why not birds? So, be creative, while choosing a birdhouse. Birdhouses range in style from gazebo and Victorian styles to barns and space shuttles. The design is your choice. You might like to build or purchase a birdhouse that will reflect your personal character. Birds aren’t really interested in architectural design, but want a birdhouse that will provide safety, security and easy access.

Bird population is diminishing in today’s world due to the use of chemicals that are polluting their natural habitat and food supply. Birdhouses protect birds and coupled with well-stocked feeders and a variety of seeds and insects from your garden, they will find a safe haven in your backyard. In return, they bring your garden to life with flashes of color, wonderful songs and comical antics.

A birdhouse should be well built, durable, waterproof, cool in summer, warm in winter and easily accessible to birds. Be sure you allow for cleaning when assembling your birdhouse. If you’re planning to purchase one, look for cracks in the wood, knots and other defects that will allow water to get inside. If you’re building the house, use your imagination to create a unique birdhouse that will add a touch of charm to your yard or garden. Nowadays, many varieties of birdhouses are available in the market ranging from plain and simple to the elaborate and decorative.

Amazing American Bobtail – The Symbol Of Beauty

Relatively a breed of cat that has not gained the high degree of popularity is the American bobtail cat. Appeared in the last phase of 1960’s, the American bobtail cats have not yet been accepted by the cat fancier community of the world. The most distinguishable part of an American bobtail cat is its stubby bobbed tail, which adds weight to the beauty of the animal. The tail of an American bobtail cat is mot more than about one-third to one-half the total length of the other normal breeds of cats.
